Anthony Hordern Jingles

Compiled from Hordern‘s advertising jingles in Sand’s Directory 1898-1904

ANTHONY HORDERN’S FOR ANYTHING FROM A NEEDLE TO AN ANCHOR

Plumbers’ tools and boxwood rules,

Linen cuffs and broidered ruffs,

Writing inks and enamelled sinks,

Pretty fans and all sorts of cans,

Napkin holders and paper folders,

Bridal bonnets and books of sonnets.

It’s the people’s market, the popular store!

Hooks and books, choppers for cooks,

Prime provisions, pretty ribbons,

Tea cosies and floral posies,

Flour sifters and buggy lifters,

Date reminders and coffee grinders,

Dish covers and presents for lovers.

The shop for the masses, the shop for the classes!

Fireplace screens and haricot beans,

Garden rakes and toothsome cakes,

Biscuits for dogs and grates for logs,

Stones, hones and mills for grinding bones,

Fashionable ties and stocks and dies,

Nice fitting gloves and cages for doves.

It isn’t a shop, it’s an institution!

Expenses lessened, savings increased,

Housekeeping made easy,

Quintessence of quality,

Surety of satisfaction.
